What does Mooon Rice mean?
Mooon Rice is the English translation of Nela Soru — நிலாச்சோறு — a Tamil phrase meaning Moon Rice. It comes from the old ritual where a mother feeds her child by hand at night, pointing to the moon, telling stories while each ball of rice goes in. It is our family's name for the way food should feel: made with hand, made with care, made at home.
What cuisine do you serve?
Authentic South Indian (Tamil Nadu, Andhra / Telangana) and Sri Lankan Tamil (Ceylon). Hyderabadi dhum biryani, masala dosa, idli, vada, Tamil Nadu curries — and Sri Lankan kothu roti, string hoppers, pittu, mutton rolls, fish patties. One kitchen, two traditions, 34 years of doing both properly.
Are you open today?
We are closed Mondays. Open Tuesday to Saturday 8 AM to 8 PM, and Sunday 8 AM to 5 PM. Breakfast dosa and idli start right at opening.
Do you do catering? How big?
Yes — catering is what we have built for 34 years. 10 guests to 600 guests. Weddings, temple feasts, office lunches, birthdays. Minimum 48 hours lead on small orders, 1–2 weeks for large events.
Is the food halal?

Do you have vegetarian and vegan options?
Absolutely. The full South Indian meal box is vegetarian — four veg curries, rice, chapathi, rasam, papad, sweet, all for $18. Many curries are made without dairy; ask about vegan prep when you call.

Unit 109, 3050 Confederation Parkway, Mississauga, ON L5B 3Z6 — on the east side of Confederation Pkwy, just south of Dundas St W. About 1.2 km south of Square One. Free parking in the plaza.
